It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia

Sunny follows a group of 5 absolute degenerates that run a dive bar in Philadelphia.

The show follows twins Dennis & Dee Reynolds, their deadbeat father Frank Reynolds, and their friends Mac and Charlie.

I love this show because it masterfully rides the line between horribly offensive and unbelievably funny. It’s my favorite show that’s ever graced my eyeballs.

My favorite character is Charlie (played by Charlie Day), famous for eating cat food, huffing/drinking paint, and being hopelessly illiterate.

The Office

This show needs no introduction. It follows the shenanigans of a dysfunctional paper company in Scranton, PA. (I guess I like shows that happen in Pennsylvania for some reason.)

I watched The Office all the time growing up, and I always found it to be somewhat of a “social education” show in addition to being a sitcom. While Always Sunny follows the lives of people that 95-99% of the time are doing sh*t nobody should do, The Office masterfully portrays complicated characters that go through several different phases throughout the show.

A wise man once said: “Care like Dwight. Look like Ryan. Act like Jim.”

Grey’s Anatomy

I enjoy Grey’s Anatomy because I find it to be a perfect combination of:

  • Medical drama — I enjoy the world of hospitals and surgery and stuff

  • Comedy — The show has some really good, albeit sometimes cheesy, dialogue.

  • Character development — The show follows many of the characters for many, many seasons in a row, and seeing them grow is very engaging.

Is this show accurate? Like at all? No f***in’ clue! But it’s very bingeable!

Hottest Character: Derek Sheppard / Callie Torres (depending on the day)

Funniest Character: George O'Malley

Most Relatable Character: Alex Karev

Most Annoying af Character: Izzie Stevens

House, MD

The writers of one of the best medical shows I’ve ever watched, House, MD, should receive all the medals in the world for their incredible dialogue this show has.

The show follows Gregory House, played by the amazing, multi-talented Hugh Laurie, a drug-addicted, sharp-tongued Doctor at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey.

Contrary to Grey’s Anatomy, this show includes a strong mystery element. Highly recommend for people with sharp, smart, non-smooth brains.

My Favorite Character: Dr. House (basic, I know)

Archer

Sterling Archer (H. Jon Benjamin, also known for Bob’s Burgers) is a secret agent that truly believes he’s immortal. He works for ISIS (the International Secret Intelligence Service) under his mother Malory (played by Arrested Development’s Jessica Walter), along with his team, Lana Kane (Aisha Taylor), Cyril Figgis (Chris Parnell), and more.

Out of all the shows listed on this page, the award for #1 TOP-TIER comedic writing goes to Archer. It’s so well written, especially with its masterful dialogue going from scene-to-scene. And I very much appreciate the animation style for it’s strong inspiration taken from classic comic books.

On top of all of these things, this show does a great job with action-packed, multi-episode story arcs, while remaining easy to just jump into at any moment.

  • Futurama — Pizza delivery guy from 1999 accidently travels to the future, his best friend is a robot named Bender that is my spirit animal.

  • Rick & Morty — Genre-defining adult animation. Amazing pop-culture references, very cool animation, great voice-acting. Sadly, the original creator is a horrible human being.

  • Parks & Recreation — Office-style mockumentary following government employees of a small Indiana town.

  • Superstore — A variety of diverse characters working in a Walmart-style store. In my opinion, this show is underrated!

  • Amazing World of Gumball — Absolute acid-trip of a children’s show on Cartoon Network. While made for… “kids”… it’s incredibly entertaining to watch as an adult too.

  • Law & Order: SVU — Hard-hitting, dramatic crime show focusing on NYPD’s Special Victims unit. Very engaging, heart-wrenching stories, highly recommend.
